Athena Gyro Greek Taverna
About This Spot
Walking into Athena Gyro Greek Taverna feels like stepping into a sunny corner of the Mediterranean nestled right in Lagrangeville. The air carries a subtle warmth, echoed in the cozy, unpretentious decor that invites you to slow down and savor the moment. It’s the kind of place where the bustle of daily life fades gently behind the scent of oregano, fresh pita, and the tang of zesty Greek dressing.
This neighborhood gem strikes a comfortable balance — casual enough to be a go-to spot for families and friends, yet thoughtfully crafted enough to transport your palate on a genuine Greek escape. Conversations hum softly around wooden tables as plates arrive adorned with vibrant colors and rich aromas, offering a taste of something both familiar and richly rewarding.
The menu plays like a mosaic of Mediterranean tradition, where the hearty warmth of charred souvlaki meets the delicate freshness of a crisp Greek salad. You might find yourself reaching for a heaping platter of gyro meat wrapped in soft pita or dipping into silky hummus sprinkled with herbs. Even the vegetarian options are full of heart — like a comforting moussaka or stuffed grape leaves that carry the slow-cooked flavors of home kitchens far away.
It’s not just the food that makes Athena Gyro memorable, but the gentle ease of its pace and the sincere kindness woven into the service. Whether stopping in after a day’s adventure or settling for a quiet meal surrounded by the faint hum of other diners, it’s clear this is a place where real moments unfold — sharing food, stories, and a small taste of Greece that lingers well beyond the last bite.

Food was amazing. Very clean healthy and delicious. The Greek dressing is worth bottling up. We went with 2 kids and everyone loved the meal including my daughter with their pita pizza. Owner super nice treated us to complimentary desserts to go.

We took a trip to Lagrangeville today in hopes of seeing some of the balloons from the balloon festival and decided to have dinner at Athena Gryo. What a fantastic experience! The staff and employees were so kind and friendly and the food outstanding! There are price points and selections to suit any budget or appetite. While its a bit of a trip from our house, I'd definitely go the extra miles to make a return visit! If you're passing through, consider stopping by . . . if not for a meal, maybe for some of their wonderful greek desserts! There were plenty to choose from!

The side salad that came with my platter was delicious and very fresh--and big enough to be a meal on its own. The ionic platter was super tasty too and I got 2 more meals from the leftovers! Excellent coffee too! The food brought back memories of visiting Greece.

Wonderful gem of a place. Not fancy- but very comfortable welcoming. I hope that they share their recipes someday. Lemon potatoes are mouthwatering and tender. The stuffed tomato and green bell pepper is delicious. I'll be back!

We stopped by for Greek food on the way back from up north. Their salad and gyro are delicious and so satisfying to eat. Fish and chips were very crispy without tasting too greasy. Service was attentive and fast.

Fantastic family owned restaurant with generous portions and friendly service. The gyro sandwich is delicious and huge and the falafel are light and tasty. In fact—it’s some of the best falafel I’ve had in the U.S. The atmosphere is clean, bright and cheerful, and speaking of cheerful, our waitress was a delight, and the owner came out to say hi and check on our meal. This is an all round excellent place where you can enjoy a home-cooked Greek meal without having to break the bank. Oh—and the baklava is superb too!

Truly delicious Greek classics. Everything we ordered - spanakopita, taramosalata, gyros 1 tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. Service was very friendly and attentive. The sunny dining room was cozy, comfy, sleek and clean.

Stopped for lunch between Pennsylvania and New England. A serendipitous stop to put it mildly. Super friendly, beautiful patio, fast service, reasonable price and best of all delicious gyro and Greek fries. Our other items were falafel on pita, a chicken gyro and last but not least the biggest plate of chicken fingers and fries. Maximum points on all. We'll definitely be back.
